KOLAWOLE OLALEKAN
Kolawole Olalekan is an expressionist and experimental artist currently living and working in Lagos, Nigeria. He earned his B.A. in Fine and Applied Arts from the University of Benin in 2013.
Working across painting and drawing, he reflects on his immediate environment and captures the nuanced happenings of everyday life. Through figure and positioning, his works may be viewed as social commentary with intimate humor. His processes spontaneously bring together a combination of the conceptual, surreal, and the possibilities of a magical realism of his own devising.
Kolawole Olalekan’s work has been auctioned at SOGAL Auctions, Signature Beyond Art Gallery, Lagos, Nigeria, in 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022, respectively. He has participated in several group exhibitions, including, IN SEARCH, Gálárì, Lagos, Nigeria (2023); The Show Will Go On, Harmer Contemporary Art Gallery, London (2023); Art for Education, Hour Glass Gallery, Lagos, Nigeria (2022); Hueformism V, University of Benin, Edo, Nigeria (2013); and Hueformism IV, University of Benin, Edo, Nigeria (2010).
