My Heritage

Ògìrìkán Art Gallery is pleased to present My Heritage, a solo exhibition by renowned artist Dolapo Ogunnusi. In vibrant watercolors, Dolapo celebrates the rich cultural heritage of Lagos — taking viewers on a nostalgic journey through its festivals, traditions, and everyday life.

Drawing from personal memories and observations from youth to the present, he preserves the stories of his community’s past while inviting a new generation to cherish its cultural legacy.

The exhibition features evocative scenes from timeless traditions: the grandeur of the Eyo Festival, fishermen casting nets in the early morning light, and children playing with recycled tires — a testament to the resourcefulness of Lagos youth. Highlights include Water Carriers, a poignant tribute to a fading profession, Weavers, honoring the intricate craftsmanship behind materials for weddings and royal ceremonies, and works that reflect on the cultural significance of tribal marks as symbols of identity and heritage. My Heritage is both archive and homage — a love letter to Lagos.
