SOLO SHOW: MY HERITAGE

Ogirikan Art Gallery is pleased to announce “My Heritage,” a solo exhibition by renowned artist Dolapo Ogunnusi, showcasing vibrant watercolor paintings that celebrate the rich cultural heritage of Lagos, Nigeria.

In “My Heritage,” Dolapo takes audiences on a nostalgic journey through the festivals, traditions, and everyday life of Lagos. The exhibition features captivating paintings that reflect the artist’s personal experiences and observations, from his youth to the present day. Through his work, Dolapo preserves the stories of his community’s past while inspiring a new generation to cherish their cultural legacy.

The exhibition includes stunning depictions of timeless festivals, such as the Eyo Festival, an annual celebration deeply rooted in Lagos’ tradition. Dolapo’s brushstrokes bring to life the early morning rituals of fishermen casting nets in the ocean, while his portraits of children playing with recycled tires highlight the resourcefulness and creativity of Lagos’ youth.

Other notable works include “Water Carriers,” a poignant portrayal of a fading profession replaced by modern conveniences, and “Weavers,” which showcases the intricate craftsmanship of local materials used for weddings and royal ceremonies. Dolapo’s paintings also honor the cultural significance of tribal marks, a symbol of identity and heritage.

Born on January 26, 1975, Dolapo Ogunnusi hails from Sagamu, Remo, Ogun State. He obtained his formal art training at Auchi Polytechnic, where he earned a Higher National Diploma in Fine and Applied Arts in 2002.

Dolapo lives and works in Lagos.
