Ubong Ettebong is a visionary artist from Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria, whose work embodies the strength, resilience, and beauty of Black art. Son of a Professor of Medicine and a graduate of Painting from the University of Uyo, Ettebong announces his arrival with his debut solo exhibition, “Search for the Hero.”
The exhibition — a powerful collection of paintings exploring themes of heroism and identity — marks a significant moment not only in the career of the young Nigerian artist, but in the broader narrative of contemporary African art.
Each piece serves as a testament to the idea that we are our own heroes, and that this innate heroism is the driving force behind our accomplishments. In his own words, Ettebong’s work reminds us that everyone has the potential to be their own hero and find fulfillment through that journey, despite life’s struggles. Search for the Hero is more than an exhibition. It is a call to self-recognition, courage, and becoming.
